Black History Month Reading Challenge

One Dozen Who Care, Inc., in collaboration with Nantahala Regional Library is hosting an intergenerational reading challenge for children in kindergarten through 12th grade during the month of February. This event promotes picture books, biographies, novels, and history books in the Purel Miller African American Book Collection. Named for a beloved former Andrews’s resident, the Collection encourages greater cultural understanding and is currently housed at Andrews Public Library.
Children are asked to read and review age appropriate books in the Miller Collection. Younger children (K-4 th) should read their books with or to an adult older than
eighteen. Older children (5th -12th) should discuss what they’re reading with an adult. For each review, the children will receive $5 with a maximum of $20 awarded per child.
Reviews must be submitted no later than Tuesday, February 28 to the following email address: pmcreadingchallenge@gmail.com. Incentives will be awarded in March. For more information about the reading challenge, contact Bridget at 828-837-2025, Janell at
305-467-3478, or visit https://www.nrlibrary.org/pmc.
